Inspired by Chris Ashworth's "Swiss Grit" design work and typographic sketches.
I was trained in design in the '90s when studios (or studio+font foundry+magazine) like Emigré and magazines like Ray Gun were doing cutting-edge work in the art, design, type and music scenes. Chris was design director at Ray Gun for years and oversaw work that documented and celebrated the sounds of my college years. Just scrolling through Chris' Ray Gun portfolio is a head shot of nostalgia. I miss those years when design was crossing from print to digital and designers were punk.
Anyway, had a little gesso'd 6x9" hardboard lying around so got out my laser-printer, masking tape, paste and paint and made a self-portait with a message. What is the message? You decide.
