I picked up some camel-hair mop brushes on Amazon for a cheap $7 just to try them out. They worked great for blocking out this piece because they hold tons of paint; I mixed a quick wash in a cup and just filled these areas in about 5m.
It also felt good to be fast and loose with the paint, something that seems harder for me with the flat brushes.
